Year 4J

Welcome to the Class Page for Mr. Stinchcomb, Mrs O’Connell and Miss Gleave’s class, Y4J !

Here you can keep up to date with all of the amazing things we have been doing so far this year, in Year 4.

For the Summer Term, our class will be going swimming every Thursday afternoon, from 1pm-1:30pm.
This provides the children with a fantastic opportunity to continue to develop such an essential life skill, so your support to ensure that the children have their kit each week is greatly appreciated.

Easter Egg Hunt

On the final day of the Spring Term, our class went on an Easter egg hunt around school!

English

In English, we have been using the Talk 4 Writing approach, to learn about stories which are set in imaginary worlds. We focused on the story of ‘The Flying Blanket’ and invented some fantastic stories of our own, which were also set in imaginary worlds.

Maths

In Maths, we are learning about a range of written methods, which include column addition, column subtraction, short multiplication and short division. We will also be looking at how we can apply these methods to solve reasoning and word problems.

IPC
In IPC, we have been focused on the topic of ‘Scavengers and Settlers’, where we are currently learning about the Stone Age. In class we recreated cave paintings, using berries just like they did in the Stone Age.

ICT / Computing

So far this year, we have been focused on computer programming during ICT and Computing. Using a programme called ‘Scratch’, the children have managed to use codes to create amazing animations.

R.E.

In R.E. this year, we have looked into the topics of Family and Belonging.
As part of Belonging, we learned about the importance of Baptism and Confirmation. Year 4 is an important year for our class as we will be Confirmed, as well as making our first Holy Communion. We have also created a prayer wall for our class, where the children can add their own prayers for anything they would like to pray about.

P.E.

For the first Summer half-term, we will be doing P.E. on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon.
Therefore, it is important that your child has their school P.E. kit and  footwear that is suitable for the hall.
