Mr Stinchcomb created a great problem solving task for his class and they loved it! .
He wanted to book his holidays but needed help from the outstanding mathematicians in his class, with booking a holiday to Orlando, Florida. The children had to use a flight schedule, hotels prices and information on the varying theme park ticket prices, to create a holiday that provided the best value for money.
He also developed links with Tesco, , arranging a workshop on budgeting and healthy food.
With Sam( The lady from Tesco!), the children discussed what they typically ate when snacking. Sam showed the class the amount of sugar that was in their favourite foods, and what a more healthy alternative might be. The children used their maths skills to calculate their sugar intake during an average day, and by how much they could cut this down. Finally, they made their very own portions of muesli, which the children could have for their breakfast the next day. To make the muesli, the children had to follow the recipe correctly, using their knowledge of different weights and measurement.
